INTRODUCING ECO LEATHER
Office Star introduces ECOleather, a new seating upholstery made of 20% recycled leather. This new upholstery cover provides an ecological and economical decision in seating upholstery compared to fully synthetic vinyls. The recycled leather is featured as the backing to enhance stability, durability and comfort. The face content is polyurethane (60%) for a softer-than-leather feel. Balance of the material (20%) is fabric. For example, see the Parsons Chairs.
ECOleather offers triple-benefit to the environment as the leather content is:
• A renewable resource
• A by-product of other processes
• Recycled from automotive materials and other landfill-bound leather materials.
At Office Star, we realize that there are many choices in products and materials. The below details are presented to help you understand ECOleather, so you can make an informed decision.
• A natural resource qualifies as a renewable resource if it is replenished by natural processes at a rate comparable or faster than its rate of consumption by humans or other users. The term also has the connotation of sustainability of the natural environment.
• Renewable resources may also mean commodities such as wood, paper and leather.
• In the leather industry, the raw materials are by-products of the meat industry, with the meat having higher value than the skin.
• The recycled leather is also known as “bonded leather”, which is a recycled man-made material containing elements of recycled leathers, leather scrap & tannery leather fibers, which otherwise would go to a landfill.
• Bonded leather industries could be considered as environmentally and ecologically friendly because they recycle leather scraps that are very difficult to eliminate.
